Scientists Compose Collective Letter Against Mine

bristol

Recently a group of 360 scientists endorsed a letter asking the   United States Environmental Protective Agency’s Administrator Gina McCarthy to shut down plans for the creation of the Pebble Mine in Bristol Bay Alaska.  This letter is one of many collaborated efforts to stop the possibility of placing a large scale open-pit mine in the heart of one the worlds most valued fisheries.

The proposed Pebble Mine is estimated to produce close to 80 billion pounds of copper and 110 million ounces of gold. Such lucrative mineral reserves have created an incredibly heated stalemate between many of the locals and mining officials.
